Two years ago, I argued that consumer AI was heading toward a familiar endgame: distribution would trump raw model quality, and hence the incumbents Google and Meta were best positioned to win.
Sometimes with all the ruckus around the benchmarks, new releases, claude vs. openAI - it is nice to be reminded of the sobering reality. Distribution is king!
Habits are hard to build and harder to break. ChatGPT for consumers have reached habit level. Lets see if any of the companies can actually break that momentum down. 1.2B active weekly users is insane to think about. 15% of all humanity are using something that didn't exist 4 years ago.
I loved the analysis. I have always considered Claude as a special purpose LLM rather than general purpose LLMs like ChatGPT, and Gemini. They do have a special purpose vehicle but the bigger TAM is general purpose.
Also, distribution advantage still holds true for Google as bundling Gemini with their other apps will take away large %ge of users away from other LLMs.
Wasn't aware that claude, which I felt is much better than gptfor personal use, is this behind Openai.

Horrifying! Chat GPT is in league with TrumpCo.
